First of all, I am always backed up. It is not unrealistic for me to say that it will be a few months before I complete the piece that you request from me. The art, as fun as it is and as much as I would love to do every day, is a side thing for me and my employment sometimes gets in the way of that! If you are willing to wait, I will always give it a try.
That brings me to the second important thing. Sometimes, it just does not work out. Either I just can not quite get it right or it is not a thing that lends itself to collage well. I do not charge for any work that is not wanted or the failed attempts, but assume that I did the best I could and that I will not be trying again and again to get it right.
Third thing! So, if it does work out, then the original is yours for purchase. I charge $15 an hour for me work and each piece ranges from about 6 hours to 10 hours for your standard request. The finished original is usually an 11x14 or 8x10 in size, unless otherwise specified when we are discussing the project. Sometimes this depends on available print and material that is available to do the portrait. Size does not usually change the price, as it is usually the same amount of time anyway. I charge a fairly low hourly rate because, while you get the original, I do retain the right to make prints. The minimum charge for an custom order is $100, but most fall into the $110-150 ballpark.
If you are wanting a favourite animal, like a panda etc, I will just take it from there and go with it. If you are looking to have a family pet as a custom order, I ask you to send me a whack ofpictures, as many as you can that are at eye level to the animal and in natural light. If you are local, I can always come shoot some pics myself too. Remember though, this collage will only be a semblance to your little darlings. It is magazine paper being glued and layered after all!
If you want the original to be framed, I am happy to do that. One of my former jobs actually required me to frame photographs regularly, so they will come ready to hang with gallery backing. I usually pick basic, but good quality, frames/matting and the charge ranges between $40-$50 on average. Sometimes people worry about disrupting the original in framing, so this allows you to be worry free :)
I think most of the info is covered here, but feel free to message me if you have any more questions about the whole process.
And thank you so much for being interested in my artwork!
